Applicants must upload the following documents, as applicable, and attach them electronically to their application:
- Valid Driver's License
- Iowa or National EMT or Paramedic Certification card
- Fire Fighter I, II, Hazmat Operations, ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications if you have them
- Documents should be attached to your online application if you have completed any of the following items in the past 12 months:
- Successful Central Iowa Fire & EMS Testing Consortium written certification
- Successful Central Iowa Fire & EMS Testing Consortium physical ability evaluation (PAE)
- Successful Nationally Recognized CPAT Card
Applications must be completed online, with all required forms attached, by no later than 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 6, 2025. If unable to attach documents to your application, you may email them to jbobst@urbandale.org prior to the April 6, 2025 deadline. AFTER APRIL 6TH, INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be asked to take the written exam from IO Solutions, which will be administered through DMACC. Candidates who have completed the IO Solutions written test at DMACC within the past 12 months with another agency can use the same test results if their score is 70% or higher. Passing test results must be submitted by the deadline of April 6, 2025. Please attach your IOS results to your application or email your results to: jbobst@urbandale.org. If you have not taken the IO Solutions test previously, more information regarding the written exam will be sent to qualifying candidates.

Candidates will also be required to take the physical ability test. Candidates who have passed the CPAT within the past twelve (12) months do not have to take the Urbandale physical ability test. You must show proof of a passing CPAT to waive the UFD test. For candidates who do not have a passing CPAT score on file, the physical ability test will be administered on April 9, 2025 - April 11, 2025. More information regarding the physical ability test will be sent to qualifying candidates.

Candidates passing the written test and physical ability test will be invited to the oral board interviews. Interviews will be held during the week of April 14-18, 2025.
More information regarding interview dates and times, along with scheduling instructions, will be sent to those who qualify. Candidates scoring 80% or above on the oral board interview will be placed on the certified list. The certified list will be active for one (1) year from the date of certification. Candidates on the certified list will be eligible for hire as positions become available in the department during the one year time frame.
